Madonna, 64, has sparked concern among fans after posting a new video on Instagram in which she sports silver teeth and bleached eyebrows while aggressively lip-syncing to Baby Keem's track 'Vent'. In the clip, she mouths the lyrics: 'Have you ever been punched in your mother******* face? What you say, oh you haven't? Alright, wait!' while pulling menacing faces in her bathroom.
The video, which also shows the singer lying on her bed with her red hair in plaits and wearing thick silver chains, has drawn hundreds of comments from fans begging her to stop posting what they describe as 'weird reels'. One fan wrote: 'You were my idol growing up. I used to love your music & creativity, please stop with these weird reels! it’s getting dark & concerning now.' Another added: 'What happened to her? She doesn’t even look like Madonna…'
This is not the first time the Queen of Pop has faced criticism for her social media content. She recently nearly got banned from Instagram after posting a topless photo, with only her hair covering her breasts, captioned 'bad girl' with a backwards peace sign over her mouth. Fans have also criticised her use of filters in other posts.
Some long-time supporters have urged Madonna to channel her rebellious energy into more productive avenues. One comment read: 'I think you need to stop hanging out with kids and surround yourself with other true icons…so you can remember who you used to be and who you really are. A legend…not an idiotic try hard.' Another fan suggested: 'Imagine if you used that rebelliousness in a more productive way like making controversial music to bring awareness to human rights issues.'
Madonna has not responded to the criticism, but her regular posting of provocative content suggests she remains unapologetic about her online persona.
