ITV Love Island fans have been left scratching their heads after discovering that one contestant goes by the moniker "Pipsqueak" inside the lavish villa — a nickname that appears to have materialised out of thin air.
Couple's Goal Challenge Sparks Confusion
The drama rolls on in the popular ITV2 reality series, with last night's episode (Wednesday, July 8) seeing the Islanders tackle the Couple's Goal challenge. Each duo was required to answer a string of questions about one another as partnerships. Presented by Jasmine and Kavan, the queries ranged from 'which couple has the least sexual chemistry' to the pair least likely to succeed beyond the villa and those boasting the most authentic bond.
Predictably, it didn't take long for tempers to flare with several Islanders clashing heads. Viewers weren't impressed by the explosive scenes though, with some threatening to contact Ofcom over claims of bullying behaviour. The tension arose as Julia stood her ground against Lola and others, while questioning the genuineness of Lola and Sean's relationship, reports OK!.
Finley's Unusual Nickname Revealed
Yet viewers found themselves sidetracked upon learning that Finley, who's currently coupled up with Ellie, actually goes by a completely different name inside the villa. After selecting him and Ellie for various rounds, numerous Islanders affectionately called Finley "Pipsqueak", leaving viewers utterly bewildered.
Taking to X, one person asked: "This Pipsqueak nickname sounds so forced lmao," as another echoed: "Where did PIPSQUEAK come from?!" A third penned: "Pipsqueak? Where's he got that name from." A fourth added: "Why do they call finley pipsqueak what have I missed." A fifth viewer questioned: "What's the pipsqueak joke?" A sixth declared: "Finley is so background in this season that the whole pipsqueak thing is confusing." Another echoed: "not them calling finley pipsqueak LOL ."
Fans Speculate on Origin
But where has the endearing nickname originated from? Some fans reckon they've "worked out" the meaning behind it. Some speculated it was a nickname that stemmed from Ellie, as another person suggested he resembled a character from the Flushed Away film. It first emerged last night when the Islanders were questioned about which couple was the most authentic. Mica and Samraj scribbled on their board "Ellie + Finley (Pipsqueak)", as the remaining Islanders followed their lead and also called Finley Pipsqueak, which left them in stitches.
It's unclear precisely when the Islanders began calling Finley Pipsqueak, or who coined it initially, but it left fans scratching their heads last night. Though typically, someone gets dubbed pipsqueak when playfully teased about their height or more relaxed attitude. It might also relate to someone's younger age. Finley is 23-years-old and is around 6ft 2", making him amongst the tallest in the cast, and also one of the youngest. Yet, compared to others in the villa, he definitely has more of a chilled personality as his romance with Ellie continues to flourish.
Fan Favourites for Victory
The pair are currently fan favourites to claim victory on the show, with many voicing their backing on social media.
Love Island airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
