Liverpool bride's defiant message to ex after wedding called off

Liverpool resident Katherine Jones has gone viral on TikTok after attending her wedding celebrations without her fiancé, just weeks after he called off their marriage. She shared her story live on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, August 26, where she was introduced with a round of applause before hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh shared their admiration, reports the Mirror.

Wedding called off days before Italy ceremony

Katherine was preparing to marry her partner of six-and-a-half years in Italy when he decided to call off the marriage a week before. After returning home just days before the big day, Katherine noticed her husband-to-be acting cold and distant. That evening, he sat at the kitchen table and told her quietly: "I just feel like we shouldn't get married." The confession left Katherine "devastated" and fighting off nausea.

Because the Tuscan venue was paid in full and the deposits were non-refundable, Katherine decided to host a party with her closest family and friends. She notably uninvited her ex-partner's guests as she knew they would have reminded her of him.

Family and friends rally around

Katherine explained that she rang her mother and sister the morning after her engagement ended. They then told her family and friends the news, urging them to still attend the party. "[My prospective in-laws] didn't come. Seriously, nothing against them. It was purely that it would have reminded me of him, and that would have upset me further," Katherine shared. "So, I just said, 'Let's just keep it to us'. So, it was just my friends and family."

Despite the celebrations, Katherine said that she was still "heartbroken". She added: "I'm up and down. It helps having all the support around me." Reflecting on the day, she went on: "I had moments of ups and downs, some moments I was crying, but a lot of the time I was laughing. And when I created the content [on TikTok], I genuinely was laughing, because the girls who were with me were making me laugh... They were the best."

Viral TikTok and defiant message

Richard then noted that Katherine's ex would likely have been among the nine million viewers of her viral TikTok video. "I just wonder if he looked at it and thought, 'Oh, what have I given up?'" he said. Katherine replied: "I don't think he was wondering what he lost. I think he was wondering, 'Oh my god, I'm so shy. Why has she done this to me?'" Addressing her ex, she defiantly added: "Why did you do that to me?!"

Katherine's social media post received thousands of comments from supportive followers. "Unreal!!! Love this for you girl!!!!" one person wrote. Another added: "Kinda chic to have a wedding without a groom," while a third said: "Girl you're so strong, I would've lost my s***." Someone else commented: "Wedding without a groom. I love this for you. Now keep living the good life."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
