Lionel Richie's Beverly Hills mansion was targeted by burglars in the early hours of Saturday morning, with the 76-year-old music legend present at the time. The incident occurred just after midnight, marking a rare case where a high-profile celebrity was home during an attempted break-in.
According to TMZ, the Beverly Hills Police Department confirmed the property was burglarised. A suspect was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, but the District Attorney has yet to file formal charges, and the investigation remains ongoing. Richie's advanced home surveillance systems are credited with scaring off the intruder, and authorities hope CCTV footage will aid the case.
No items were reported stolen from the property. The incident adds to a spate of burglaries targeting A-list homes in Los Angeles this summer, including recent break-ins at properties belonging to Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, and others.
Richie continues his role as a judge on American Idol, which has been renewed for a 24th season expected to premiere in spring 2026. He joined the panel in 2018 alongside Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood.
