Natalie Tippett, the woman identified as the inspiration behind 'Madeline' on Lily Allen's latest album, has publicly denied having a three-year affair with David Harbour. In a series of Instagram posts on Sunday, following Allen's appearance on Saturday Night Live, Tippett said she felt 'extremely violated' by how she has been portrayed.
Writing on Instagram, Tippett said: 'I did not have a three year affair with anyone. I'm unsure why this person wants so badly to pit people against me or create this narrative that we both know is false based on the actual messages that I have saved between us.' She added that those messages had been 'referenced in a song without my consent'.
Tippett also rejected the idea of women being set against each other, stating: 'I don't weaponise women against women for the behaviour of men, especially not in an open relationship.' She concluded: 'I'm a human being not a character someone created.'
The dispute arises from Allen's album West End Girl, in which she detailed her open marriage with the Stranger Things actor and referenced an affair with a woman called Madeline. Allen and Harbour ended their relationship last December amid reports of the affair.
The controversy was amplified by Allen's SNL performance, her first as musical guest in 18 years, where Dakota Johnson appeared as Madeline. Johnson delivered spoken-word verses from a curtained bed before kissing Allen on the cheek on stage. Allen has described the record as a blend of 'truth' and 'fantasy'.
