Stranger Things star David Harbour has spoken publicly for the first time about Lily Allen's 2025 album West End Girl, describing the record as 'weird' while insisting he respects her right to channel personal experience into art.
In an interview with Variety, the 51-year-old actor said: 'I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.' He declined to address specific claims on the album, adding: 'Stories are complex... It wasn't my experience.'
Harbour and Allen, 41, married in 2019 after meeting on the dating app Raya. Their marriage ended in 2024, and Allen released West End Girl in October 2025, her first album in seven years. She described the work as 'a mixture of fact and fiction', with themes including infidelity, gaslighting, open relationships and sex addiction.
In the aftermath of the split, Allen entered a treatment facility earlier in 2025. She told British Vogue that her feelings of despair were so strong they brought her closest to relapsing after six years of sobriety. Harbour, meanwhile, revealed he suffered a nervous breakdown in December, forcing him to miss events for the final season of Stranger Things. He spoke candidly about his mental health, saying: 'Under times of extreme stress, that can cause somewhat erratic behaviour, and it's embarrassing, and I'm ashamed of it.'
