Lifeguard Hailed Hero After Removing Unused Towels From Sunbeds in France
Lifeguard Hailed Hero for Removing Unused Towels From Sunbeds

A lifeguard at Camping Le Marsouins in the south of France has been hailed a 'hero' by travellers on social media after a viral clip showed her removing towels from unoccupied sunbeds. The TikTok video, which has garnered over 2.8 million views, captures two staff members in yellow and red uniforms piling multiple towels onto a single sunbed and removing them from the pool area.

Resorts Crack Down on Sunbed Reservation

This incident comes as holiday destinations across Europe implement rules to prevent guests from 'reserving' sunbeds they are not using. Many Scots and other travellers have experienced the frustration of searching for available sun loungers at busy resorts, only to find beds left unoccupied for hours with towels but no occupants.

Over the past few weeks, various videos have emerged on social media showing the lengths some holidaymakers go to secure a sunbed. Some have been caught sleeping around the pool at 5am, while others race to claim spots when gates open.

Mixed Reactions From Viewers

The TikTok clip received thousands of likes and comments, with opinions divided. One user backed the action, writing: "About time, all hotels should be doing this." Another praised: "My heroes don't use capes, but yellow shirts." A third person shared: "Sun bed saving should not be allowed, it’s unfair to others. I am the one who gets towels off if they don't come after one hour."

However, not everyone agreed. One traveller stated: "Reserving beds early hours to come down hours later is wrong. Leaving them for 45 mins or so for the pool, food should be ok." Another added: "I don’t get this. People are allowed to leave the bed for food or play in the pool. I don’t agree with leaving towels there all day and not using the bed but some grace is needed."

Humour also emerged, with one person joking: "Imagine if you were just in the pool... 'where's my towel gone!'" Another replied: "Or in the toilet."

Advice for Holidaymakers

If you are heading on holiday this summer, it is advisable to check the rules regarding sunbeds at your hotel, as you may find your towels removed if you are away too long.
