Liam Payne's Sister Shares Heartbreaking Tribute One Year After His Death

Liam Payne's sister Ruth has paid an emotional tribute to the late One Direction star on the first anniversary of his death. The singer died aged 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on 16 October 2023.

In a lengthy social media post, Ruth described being 'paralysed' by grief and said her brother's death 'will never make sense'. She wrote: 'I underestimated grief, woah did I underestimate it. I am paralysed by it daily.' She added: 'You shouldn't have died.'

Ruth shared a throwback photograph of Liam with their mother Karen and sister Nicola, and reflected on the pain of not being able to contact him. 'I can't facetime or text to see how you're doing, it's an eternal homesick feeling because we can't go back,' she said.

She also spoke of a recurring nightmare in which she is in his hotel room before the incident, screaming for him but he cannot hear her. 'My brain is locked on your last minutes on this earth, the unaccounted minutes, the minutes I will never have the answers to,' she wrote.

Ruth said she had been unable to keep promises made to her brother about handling his affairs, describing the legal process as 'outdated' and adding: 'The devastation just sinks deeper with every bit of you I fail.' She ended by imagining five more minutes with Liam, walking in his garden and hearing his laugh.
