Liam Gallagher was honoured with the Godlike Genius award at the NME Awards on Wednesday evening, capping a remarkable career resurgence. The former Oasis frontman, 45, has bounced back from personal setbacks including the end of Beady Eye and his marriage to Nicole Appleton, but his long-running feud with brother Noel shows no sign of abating.
Despite recently tweeting that the pair had resolved their differences over Christmas, Liam told NME: 'In my head [we called a truce]. ’Cos it’s Christmas innit and me mam’s always going, “Look, calm down,” so I had a couple of drinks and thought, you know, I’ll put it out there. But it’s not happening, is it?' He also dismissed reports of a meeting at Chiltern Firehouse, saying he went there looking for Noel but found none of his 'posh mates' about.
Liam admitted he had attempted to reform Oasis, even ringing up former bandmates while drunk, but was rebuffed. 'I said, “We’ve all gotta do it”. We’d have to get someone to do Noel’s parts, which wouldn’t be hard. It would have been good. But they’re all happy doing what they’re doing, so they blanked me. Well, Bonehead was up for it.'
His debut solo album 'As You Were' has won a new legion of fans, though some critics have noted the use of co-writers. Liam shrugged off the criticism, comparing himself to Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero: 'He doesn’t defend – he might not be an all-round footballer – but he still puts the ball in the back of the f**king net. And that’s how I’m seeing it. So get that down your f**king neck, Noel.'
