Noel Gallagher has criticised thousands of Oasis fans for taking up his offer of a refund following a technical-hit concert at Heaton Park.
Around 20,000 of the 70,000 attendees at the Manchester gig earlier this month requested their money back after Gallagher announced mid-show that the performance was 'a free gig from now on'. The decision came after a faulty generator forced the band to leave the stage twice.
Gallagher later reaffirmed the offer, saying anyone who kept their ticket would receive a full refund. However, he soon appeared to regret it, telling the crowd the generator had blown up and the band had to borrow a replacement from Argos.
Writing on his blog, Gallagher mocked the fans who took him at his word. 'So you were genuinely disappointed? There wasn't a 20,000 gap in the crowd,' he wrote, before adding 'Cheeky cunts' and 'Tsk ... some people'.
Had all 70,000 fans requested the £45 ticket price back, the band would have lost £3 million. As it was, the payout is estimated at around £1 million.
The concert was Oasis's first in Manchester for four years and was described by organisers as the largest event at Heaton Park since the Pope's visit in 1982.
