Levi's 501 jeans have been crowned the ultimate fashion staple in Britain, according to a new survey by Nationwide Building Society. The iconic denim beat out other classics such as Nike Air Max trainers, vintage band T-shirts, and cowboy boots to claim the top spot.
Top Fashion Items Revealed
The survey asked Brits to name their favorite fashion items, and the results highlight a love for timeless pieces. The Burberry trench coat, Barbour wax jacket, blue denim jacket, Gucci loafers, Fred Perry polo shirts, and Birkenstocks all ranked highly.
Practical wardrobe basics that have become fashion legends also made the list, including The North Face puffer jacket, Lacoste polo shirt, and Ralph Lauren cable-knit jumper. Cowboy boots also scored well.
Second-Hand Shopping on the Rise
Eight in 10 respondents said they get a buzz from finding an unexpected bargain, and 27% said discovering a classic item is a major mood booster. Nearly a third (31%) cited price as a key motivation for their fashion choices.
The survey also found that 24% believe second-hand items offer better value than buying new. Almost a fifth (19%) said older pieces are often better quality than modern products, and the same number cited environmental concerns and a desire to avoid fast fashion.
