A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton found herself apologising at the conclusion of a challenging property search for a guest she described as 'fussy'. The Channel 4 host faced difficulties after welcoming Paul and his best friend Tina to the show, with the episode airing on Friday, June 26.
Guest Rejects First Property Instantly
Paul and Tina were searching for a Spanish holiday home in Benalmadena, on the Costa del Sol. Paul's husband Shaun was unable to join the filming and remained in the UK. However, Paul was immediately unimpressed with the first property Laura presented, stating: 'It's absolutely not for me, and if it's not for me, it's most definitely not for Shaun.'
Laura expressed surprise at his swift rejection, noting: 'I don't think I've ever been in and out of a property as quickly as that. But if Paul doesn't like it, I'd rather draw a line under it and move on because I'm pretty sure the next four properties are going to have a better reaction than this one.'
Continued Disappointment for Laura
Unfortunately, Laura's optimism proved misplaced as Paul and Tina remained unimpressed with the subsequent properties. At one point, Laura admitted: 'You sometimes make me a bit nervous, whether you're actually wanting to see any more of it.' She even labelled Paul as 'fussy' during the search.
As the property search drew to a close, Laura apologised for failing to find their dream holiday home within their £250,000 budget. She explained: 'When I first met you Paul, you had a clear idea of what you wanted and what you didn't want. It has been really tricky obviously trying to find something that stole your heart.'
Budget Constraints Highlighted
Laura elaborated on the mismatch between Paul's expectations and the market reality: 'You have got a good budget but what you are looking for, the entry level for it is £300,000, that's what these properties start at. Hence everything we've looked at has had to push into your wiggle room. If you're wanting more modern, sleek, all of those things that I haven't been able to show you, I hate to say it, but you're going to have to find another £50,000 to £80,000 to put in the budget.'
Paul acknowledged he could not increase his budget and would need to reconsider options he had previously ruled out, including apartments.
Laura's Final Apology
Concluding the episode, Laura said: 'I am so sorry that we weren't able to find something that got you excited and made you feel it was right for you.' In a separate comment to the camera, she added: 'I'm disappointed I wasn't able to find something for Paul and his partner Shaun on his search. But they do now have a clear idea of what it is they want and I wish them all the best with their continued search.'
A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
