Actress Kym Marsh has announced the death of her cousin Carl, describing him as a “legend” taken “far too soon”. The 49-year-old former Coronation Street star shared the heartbreaking news on social media, just over a year after losing her father to prostate cancer.
In a poignant post, Marsh wrote: “I can’t believe I’m writing this. Today our family say goodbye to Carl. My cousin. A legend to all who knew him. A light turned out far too soon.” She added that his death had left a “huge hole” in their lives that would never be filled, and questioned why such cruel things happen to good people.
Marsh recalled fond memories of camping holidays and Carl’s kindness, humour and loyalty. She expressed regret at not being able to attend his funeral, but said she knew he would understand. “We will love you forever and always. Good night god bless my wonderful cousin. Sleep tight,” she concluded.
The star’s father David died in January last year after a battle with prostate cancer. Earlier this year, she marked what would have been his 80th birthday with a tribute, calling him her “hero” and “biggest champion”. In a recent interview, Marsh spoke about grief and hard times, advising others to “just keep going”.
