Kylie Minogue Opens Up About Michael Hutchence in New Documentary

Kylie Minogue has spoken candidly about her relationship with the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence in a new documentary, revealing details of their passionate but doomed romance. The pop star, who dated Hutchence from 1989 to 1991, described him as having an 'insatiable curiosity' for life.

In the documentary 'Mystify: Michael Hutchence', Minogue said: 'Sex, love, food, drugs, music, travel, books, you name it, he wanted to experience it. As his partner I got to experience a lot of that as well.' She added that Hutchence 'awakened my desire for things in my world'.

The couple began their relationship after meeting at a gig in Australia, with Minogue describing them as polar opposites: 'He was a dark bad boy and I was the pure good girl.' They communicated via faxes using fake names, 'Gabby Jones' for her and 'Swordfish' for him, to keep their romance secret.

Minogue recounted the painful end of their relationship in 1991, when Hutchence flew her from Japan to New York to break up with her. She said: 'He was on the floor, on all fours, crying. Was it work, was it the drugs? I don't know. He was like a broken man.'

The documentary, directed by Richard Lowenstein, features never-before-seen footage of the couple on holiday in Europe. Lowenstein said Minogue spoke 'totally uncensored' about her relationship with Hutchence, who died by suicide in 1997.
