Anna Williamson has revealed that King Charles had to "peel her off him" after she fell over during a botched curtsy at a royal event. The Celebs Go Dating star and psychotherapist, 46, has been an ambassador for The King's Trust for more than 17 years and regularly meets the monarch at youth achievement awards and royal events.
An embarrassing first meeting
Recalling her first interaction with the King, Anna admitted she was nervous. "Well, my first interaction with him was slightly embarrassing," she said, "because I was a little nervous, as most people are when they meet someone super famous."
She described how her attempt at a curtsy went wrong. "On quite a lot of occasions I see the king backstage at an event where I'm having to brief him on something. But when I first met him, I didn't fully commit to a curtsy, I sort of did it all a bit wrong. I ended up falling over and sort of into the king, who had to peel me off him."
A running joke with the monarch
The royal laughed off the incident and has continued to tease her about it. "I do remember the second time I saw His Majesty, he looked at me, he smiled and wagged his finger and went, 'oh it's you.' And now, it's become a firm joke. Now, whenever I see him, there is almost this sort of, 'oh gosh, here she is, the absolute liability.'"
Despite the blunder, Anna holds Charles in high regard. "He's an extremely nice man who cares very much about his charity."

Anna is back with the second series of her podcast The Affair, which launched in 2025 and offers listeners an insight into infidelity. She has also launched a follow-up weekly episode, The Affair with Anna Williamson: What Happened Next?, in which previous guests return with updates.
"We have launched The Affair with Anna Williamson: What Happened Next?, which is a second weekly drop episode because lots of people wanted to know what happened next," she explained. "Some of the guests had real cliffhanger moments and we didn't know how things turned out for them. So my guests have come back voluntarily to give us an update on what's happened with their life and their story."
