Kim Kardashian and Kanye West both supported their daughter North at her debut solo show, but sat several seats away from each other in the VIP section of the theatre.
The reality superstar, 45, and rapper Kanye, 49, split in 2022 after almost a decade of marriage but both turned up to cheer their eldest as she stepped out on stage in Chicago. As well as 13-year-old North, Kim and Kanye are parents to Saint, 10, Chicago, eight, and Psalm, seven.
Parents attend North's performance
When North appeared at The Vic Theatre to perform tracks from her EP NOrth4evr, her parents were in attendance, even though they sat on opposite sides of the VIP balcony. In footage that emerged on Instagram, Kanye could be seen dancing along to the music whilst Kim decided to capture the moment for her own social media followers as she filmed the audience cheering.
An attendee at the concert also posted a TikTok of Kanye leaving the theatre surrounded by bodyguards. During her performance, North received cheers from the crowd as she flipped her long blue hair around.
North's career so far
Before breaking out as a solo artist, North played the role of Young Simba in a concert production of The Lion King. The teenager has also shared the stage with her father on multiple occasions over the years.
North's EP contains six songs and is 11 minutes and 23 seconds long. It was released in May and deals with the teenager's perspective on being a celebrity child. Lyrics on the title track include: “Everywhere I go, feelin’ like the wrong way / I can’t even act my age.” She also adds: “I ain’t trustin’ no one, they all shady.”
North's future plans
Just weeks ago, North appeared in Dazed Magazine, where she talked about her budding career and getting started early. She said: "To start my career later. It’s like, nah, this is my hobby, this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life."
North then revealed what she would want to do if she was not a musical artist. She said she would like to be selling pumpkin spice lattes at one of the biggest coffee chains, as she explained: "What would I be? I still wanna work. I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year. I think I can next year ’cause I’m gonna be 14, so… I think I can. I want to have a regular job, I guess."
Kim and Kanye had been dating two years when they decided to tie the knot in 2014. Although the divorce process was somewhat nasty on the outside, it ended amicably with joint custody over their four kids and the rapper paying a sizeable maintenance payment to Kim each month. The couple divorced in 2022 with Kanye now married to Bianca Censori, and Kim in a relationship with F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
