Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage, citing 'marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences'. The Oscar-winning actress, 58, petitioned in a Nashville court on Tuesday to end her marriage to the Grammy-winning country singer, 57.
The couple, both Australian, have been red carpet fixtures throughout their relationship, which began in 2005. They married in Sydney in 2006. The divorce filing includes a detailed parenting plan for their two daughters, aged 17 and 14, with Kidman as the primary residential parent for 306 days per year and Urban for 59 days.
The parenting plan stipulates that both parents will 'provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship' and will not speak badly of each other. The documents indicate each parent earns more than $100,000 per month, so no spousal or child support is sought. Assets will be divided roughly equally, with each retaining their own copyrights and royalties.
Urban signed the parenting plan on 29 August, Kidman on 6 September, suggesting the divorce had been in preparation for some time. Under Tennessee law, the divorce will become final after at least 90 days. Representatives for both have not commented.
The couple had publicly described past difficulties, including Urban's substance abuse issues early in their marriage, which Kidman supported him through. However, there were few signs of an impending split until media reports of their separation emerged just before the filing.
