Britney Spears has responded to explosive claims in ex-husband Kevin Federline's upcoming memoir, saying she has suffered brain damage and comparing herself to Maleficent. In a lengthy Instagram post on Sunday, the 43-year-old singer shared a photo of herself riding a horse in the desert.
Federline's memoir, 'You Thought You Knew', is due for release on October 21 and contains allegations that Britney punched their son Preston as a child and that both Preston and brother Jayden woke to find their mother holding a knife. Britney's representatives have vehemently denied the claims.
In her post, Britney referenced the 2014 Disney film and wrote about her wings being taken away, comparing it to her own experiences. She also recounted a period when she was institutionalised during her conservatorship, saying she was illegally forced not to use her feet or body for four months and that it did more than hurt her body.
She wrote: "I do feel like my wings were taken away and brain damage happened to me a long time ago 100 percent… I have of course moved on from that troubling time in my life and I'm blessed to be alive." She also addressed Federline directly, questioning his anger and saying she has begged her children to be part of her life.
The singer concluded by saying she will always love her children and would never hurt them, describing herself as 'a pretty intelligent woman' who has been trying to live a private life. A source close to her told Mail Online that she does not plan further public responses to maintain normalcy for her children.
