Kevin Costner reportedly got into a physical altercation with his Yellowstone co-star Wes Bentley, causing a brief shutdown of production on the hit Western drama. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the incident occurred when Costner, 70, pressured Bentley to abandon Taylor Sheridan’s script in favour of his own version of a scene.
Bentley, who plays Costner’s adoptive son on the show, allegedly refused, telling Costner he had signed up for Sheridan’s production. An eyewitness said Costner “lunged” at Bentley, leading to a pushing and shoving match that required them to be separated. Another source noted that co-star Kelly Reilly was in tears after the confrontation.
A spokesperson for Bentley confirmed the altercation to the outlet, describing it as “a work-related argument during an emotional and physically tough scene” that was subsequently “discussed and resolved”. Costner’s representatives did not respond to a request for comment at the time.
The report also claims that the incident marked a turning point on set, with relations between Costner and Sheridan reportedly souring thereafter. Costner eventually left the show ahead of the second half of the final season, leading to the death of his character, John Dutton III. He has cited scheduling conflicts with his own film project, Horizon, as the reason for his departure.
