Kelly Osbourne has paid tribute to her “beautiful” friend, Amy Winehouse, on what would have been her birthday. Today, the late singer would have turned 43.
Amy tragically died aged just 27, at her home in Camden, North London, on July 23, 2011. Her death was later ruled as alcohol poisoning. Today, a string of famous faces have paid tribute to the late Back to Black singer and shared snaps with Amy over the years.
A Personal Instagram Tribute
Kelly, 41, who was close friends with Amy, has taken to Instagram to share a string of photographs of Amy, including photos of them shopping together and a picture of the late star with Kelly's late dad, Ozzy.
Captioning her post, Kelly penned: “Happy birthday, my beautiful Amy. There are some people who come into your life and leave footprints on your heart so deep that time could never possibly erase them. You are one of those people.”
“When I think of you, I don't think of the headlines, the photographs, or the noise. I think of your laugh. Your wicked sense of humour. The little moments nobody else saw. The nights we laughed until our stomachs hurt, your meatballs, the conversations that only best friends could understand, and that extraordinary heart you carried beneath all that brilliance.”
Remembering a 'Magic' Friend
She went on to add: “You were magic, Amy. Beautifully, wildly, imperfectly human and so very loved. Today, I hope wherever you are, you are surrounded by the kind of peace you deserved here.” Kelly went on to say that Amy was “still loved, still missed, still spoken about with laughter and tears, and still carried in the hearts of the people lucky enough to have known you.”
The former singer turned presenter added: “I miss you in ways words will never quite manage to explain. So today I won't say goodbye. I'll simply say what I wish I could have said to you every year: Happy birthday, sweetheart. I love you. I always will. Keep singing somewhere beautiful. Until we meet again.”
“Love Kelly B*****s.” The comment section was flooded with support. Amy's goddaughter, singer Dionne Bromfield penned a single red heart emoji. One person said: “Beautiful words, Kelly.”
While a second added: “Happy Heavenly Birthday Amy Winehouse! @kellyosbourne you were such close friends with her! I loved your interview and when you danced to Rehab at Somerset House in 2007.” “Beautiful words from a true friend. What luck to know this angel, @kellyosbourne. The world didn't deserve Amy,” added another.
Legacy and Upcoming Release
Amy was catapulted to global stardom following the release of her second album, Back to Black, in 2006. Throughout her life, she had been open about her struggles with drugs and alcohol.
On the 20th anniversary of Back to Black's release, Amy's collaborator and friend, Mark Ronson, paid tribute to the late singer and said her songs “matter so deeply to so many people”.
“It's crazy that six songs made in a fit of furious musical infatuation would matter so deeply to so many people 20 years later,” he said ahead of the anniversary.
The upcoming special editions of Back To Black will be released on October 23, four days before its 20th anniversary.
