Katie Price's make-up artist, Mitchell Halliday, has responded to cruel online comments about the former glamour model's appearance at the National Television Awards. The 48-year-old attended the ceremony earlier this week with a bold new look, which she later revealed was due to bruising and swelling after undergoing cosmetic procedures in Brussels, including new breast implants.
While many fans praised her on social media, others left harsh remarks. One comment read: "Katie Price looking like an overcooked roast chicken." Another said: "Good god, she looks like a reptile." Others criticised the make-up, with one user writing: "You turned her into the Xenomorph from the movie Alien, great work!"
Make-up artist defends his work
In a video posted on social media after the event, Mitchell Halliday addressed the backlash. He said: "Thousands and thousands and thousands of people have given their opinion on the glam, and on the outfit, and on everything else, of course. A lot of it is positive, and there is a lot of negative as well, but that's so ok. Everyone is allowed to have their opinion, and that's not really what this video is about. This video is about something else."
He explained that he follows a brief to make clients "feel incredible", adding: "I absolutely did my job yesterday." His brief was to "do something different" from other women on the red carpet. He said: "I wanted to make Katie feel like Katie Price, the one that we all know and love, Jordan, the one that we all know and love."
Katie's reaction and response to critics
Mitchell said Katie was delighted with the look and, for the first time in her life, looked at herself and said: "Wow, you're a star". He admitted he was "genuinely a little bit upset" by some comments, not because people disliked the make-up, but because of the cruelty directed at Katie. He described the remarks as "so, so, so evil" and added: "What is wrong with people? Just scroll on!"
Katie also responded on her podcast, saying: "Mitchell did my makeup, which I wanted. I said he could do whatever he wanted; he did an amazing job covering all this up. I thought he was brilliant, so good." She added that in the wrong lighting, the make-up can look "proper plastered on", blaming incorrect lighting in photographs. On the night, she praised Mitchell for making her "look like a doll", noting that hours earlier she had been "looking like a hamster" due to surgery.
