Katie Price is planning a dramatic confrontation with her jailed husband Lee Andrews, regardless of whether he is released from custody in Dubai. The former glamour model has not seen her spouse for weeks after he failed to return to the United Kingdom, but she has vowed to seek answers from him if he is freed, and if not, she will attempt to enter the prison to speak with him.
Background of the Detention
The couple was scheduled to give their first joint interview on Good Morning Britain last month, with Lee filming himself at Muscat International Airport claiming he was flying out. However, the video was actually recorded at Dubai International Terminal Two. Andrews, a British national living in Dubai, is reportedly subject to a travel ban. Good Morning Britain confirmed that Lee was detained when he was due to board his flight. During a FaceTime call, he told his wife he was being detained and his hands had been tied. It has since emerged that he was arrested and is being held at the notorious Al Awir Central Prison.
Katie's Mission in Dubai
Lee was expected to be released on Monday after being ordered to pay a four-figure sum, but he has not yet been freed. Katie is now in Dubai seeking answers, accompanied by a videographer documenting her trip. In a video shared on her Facebook page, she stated: "I know he's in a prison. I've been told if two cases are paid they'll let him out. I'm going to see if that's true. If he does get out, then I need answers and questions to a lot of stuff." She added that if he is not released, she will try to get a visit to talk to him, noting that visits are limited to half an hour.
Earlier today, Katie said she planned to visit the courts, the prison, and the police station. Due to local customs in the United Arab Emirates, despite the heat, she had to cover up, choosing to wear leggings and a T-shirt. She told fans: "Today, even though it's about 40 degrees outside, the places I've got to go today, you have to cover up hence the leggings, hence the jacket. I mean, I can't hide these, but I'm covered. It's skintight, but I'm covered. I've got to go to courts, prison and a police station. Not a visiting prison, but 'the' prison. And who knows what today's going to bring? I've had four hours' sleep, not even that."
Reasons for Arrest
It was initially claimed that Lee had been detained on suspicion of espionage, but it later emerged that the true reason for his arrest was a "private civil matter." After fearing for Lee's welfare when he vanished last month, Katie said last week: "I have found him – he is alive, and he is okay. I told him how worried I had been and told him I loved him. It was very rushed, but he said the authorities out there thought he was a spy. I don't know much more than that right now."
