Katie Price has been seen almost stepping on her new puppy, sparking renewed concerns from animal welfare groups. The 47-year-old former glamour model was photographed unloading shopping from her car as the tiny dog darted around her feet. At one point, she came dangerously close to treading on the pup, which was not on a lead while crossing the road.
The puppy, whose name and breed have not been disclosed, was introduced on Snapchat earlier this week. Price gushed about the animal, saying: “And this little one just does not leave my side. I can’t wait for him to meet Rookie — he’s met all of the other animals. This is Rookie’s new little friend for when we go horse riding, walks, everything.”
Animal rights charity PETA has repeatedly criticised Price for what it calls her “careless” attitude toward pet ownership. Director Elisa Allen stated: “Anyone who warns Katie not to hurt the animals she takes in might as well be screaming into the wind, for all she seems to care.” The charity had previously offered Price £5,000 to sign a contract pledging never to own another animal, but she has not been deterred.
A petition demanding Price be banned from owning pets has amassed over 38,000 signatures. This follows a series of tragic incidents involving her animals, including the deaths of her German Shepherd Blade and Pomeranian Sharon on the busy A24 near her East Sussex home, as well as the suffocation of her French Bulldog Rolo in 2020. Price has also been accused of selling or giving away pets, including her Sphynx cats and a French Bulldog.
