Eamonn Holmes's girlfriend Katie Alexander has turned to prayer as the television presenter continues his recovery in hospital after suffering a stroke. Friends say the 66-year-old was found slumped unconscious at his flat in Kingston upon Thames, south-west London, and was taken to hospital on Tuesday.
The former This Morning host has endured chronic pain for years and relies on a wheelchair. He was diagnosed with a dislocated pelvis, leading to three slipped discs, and has previously fractured his shoulder after tumbling down stairs. His health deteriorated last week, prompting the hospital admission.
A friend said: "Katie has been praying for Eamonn every day. She's beside herself after an incredibly emotional and rollercoaster week. She's been to church to pray in solitude." They added that Katie, a devout Christian, has spent "pretty much all of the time" by his bedside. His estranged wife Ruth Langsford has reportedly been kept informed via their 23-year-old son Jack.
In a statement, GB News confirmed the stroke and said Eamonn was "responding well to treatment". The network added: "Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better." His son Declan Holmes, 37, also thanked well-wishers, saying: "Dad is doing OK given the circumstances."
Eamonn had been due to return to his breakfast programme on Monday but will remain off air for the foreseeable future. He has not appeared on screen since March 11, when viewers raised concerns after he seemed to nod off during an interview.
