Katey Sagal marks 40 years of sobriety

Sons Of Anarchy star Katey Sagal marked 40 years of sobriety with a celebration. The actress, 76, posted photos of herself in a white, short-sleeved dress as she blew out candles on a cake to commemorate the occasion.

Alongside the images, she wrote: “Me… last night… celebrating 40 years of continuous SOBRIETY, surrounded by like-minded friends, my amazing husband, and these 3 loves of my life. Grateful beyond… it’s a wonderful life.”

Family and career

Sagal is married to Kurt Sutter, the creator of Sons Of Anarchy, in which she starred. The couple, who wed in 2004, are parents to daughter Esme, 19. The actress is also mother to Sarah Grace, 32, and Jackson, 30, from her marriage to Jack White, which lasted from 1993 to 2000.

Sagal has previously spoken about beginning to use drugs and alcohol at age 15. In an interview on the MeSsy podcast with her former Married… With Children co-star Christina Applegate, she said: “I’m a person that for probably the first 30 years of my life, didn’t deal (with) s***.

“I medicated myself to where I didn’t really deal with my emotion. My parents died, I had cancer in my 20s, I mean, a bunch of s*** happened, and I didn’t really deal with it.

“And then, you know, I stopped medicating myself, and now I have no choice but to deal with it.”

Open dialogue with daughter

Sagal added that she maintains an “open dialogue” with her youngest child, Esme, about alcohol. She said: “We talk a lot about, you know, do not do drugs, period. She’s grown up in a household of no alcohol.

“So, you know, we’re gonna let her try some alcohol before she goes to college. Only because I don’t think the first experience should be at a frat party with a keg or whatever.”

Along with Married… With Children and Sons Of Anarchy, Sagal is also known for starring in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules and voicing the character of Leela in Futurama.
