Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, 59, has reportedly jetted off to Italy for a romantic getaway with her new boyfriend, economist and journalist Liam Halligan, three months after the couple began dating. The pair were seen in Italy over the weekend on what is described as a business trip for Halligan, but the trip is expected to include low-key romantic moments and Italian cuisine.
Source confirms romantic plans
A source told The Sun: "Liam was travelling to Italy and asked Kate to join him, she was happy to oblige. It will be quite low-key, but they are hoping to be able to spend some time together and enjoy the Italian cuisine." No photographs have emerged from the getaway, but the couple were previously photographed together at an event in May, where Garraway supported Halligan as he cycled from London to Paris in 24 hours to raise money for Duchenne UK.
Garraway's new romance after husband's death
Garraway lost her husband, Derek Draper, in January 2024, following a long battle with severe complications from Covid-19. Speaking about her new relationship at the TRIC Awards last month, she said: "It is early days, but it has been a great year." Halligan confirmed their romance in April, stating: "I have known Kate for years and we have recently become close. We laugh a lot and really enjoy each other's company. This may or may not turn into something long-term, but there is a definite spark between us, and we are both excited to see what happens."
Public support for Garraway's new chapter
A source told Heatworld that Garraway is enjoying the excitement of a new relationship: "Everyone thinks it's so lovely to see her beaming again. Kate went on such a journey with the public over Derek's health battles. At one point, she felt as though she had the backing of the entire nation behind her. She's been cautious, but it's wonderful that she's received good wishes from the public about her new relationship." The source added: "Liam has been an absolute pillar of strength for Kate. Everything about their romance has developed naturally and felt right. They're both journalists and they share plenty in common. They understand the industry they operate in, so Kate already feels there's a profound trust between them."
