Kate Cassidy has responded to online critics who accused her of leaving behind the dog she shared with Liam Payne. The 27-year-old influencer, whose boyfriend died in 2024 at age 31, clarified that their rescue dog Nala is being cared for by a friend while she is away.
Holiday Post Sparks Criticism
On Thursday, Cassidy shared on social media that she was flying out of town for "peace of mind," posting a photo from the airport. Followers quickly questioned where Nala was, with comments like "Leaving Nala alone again??" and "Always away, always having a sub owner for Nala, huh!"
Cassidy responded directly, writing: "Nala is literally staying with Anna everyone plzzzz." When another fan asked about Nala, she reiterated: "She's so good she's with Anna."
Rehoming Rumors Addressed
Earlier this month, fans speculated that Cassidy had rehomed Nala after she was away from home for an extended period. Upon returning, she shared a photo of Nala on Instagram Stories with the caption: "Reunited!!! No, I didn't rehome Nala. You guys are funny. I had a family friend stay at my apartment with her."
She added: "I'd highly recommend for anyone leaving for a longer period of time to have someone stay in your home with your furry baby!!! Makes them feel less confused and they're still at home." In another post, she shared a picture of Nala with a furrowed brow and question marks, writing: "Nala's reaction to the rehoming rumours."
Background
Liam and Kate adopted Nala just one month before his death. They had been on holiday in Argentina, where they attended a Niall Horan concert. Days before the tragedy, Kate returned to their Florida home to care for Nala while Liam stayed behind.
After Liam's death, Kate explained: "I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur. Liam was in such a good headspace when I left."
Kate has since tried dating again but recently broke up with a boyfriend after she kept comparing him to Payne. In a TikTok video, she admitted she "hated" being single again.
