Jon Bon Jovi reassured fans he will be performing for years to come as his band Bon Jovi delivered a catalogue of hits at Wembley Stadium. The singer, 64, said it was a “hope and a dream” that he would return to the London venue.
Return to touring after surgery
The band’s Forever shows mark the US rocker’s return to touring after recovering from major vocal cord surgery in 2022. He faced a setback in July when he had to cut short a show at Madison Square Garden in New York due to a sinus infection.
In between renditions of smash hits including Livin’ On A Prayer, Always, It’s My Life, You Give Love A Bad Name, Wanted Dead Or Alive and Bed Of Roses, he told the crowd: “It’s a beautiful summer night and I can’t think of a better place to have church than in Wembley stadium.”
Memories of past shows
He added: “We had a hope and a dream that we would be back in this stadium.”
The musician continued: “We played three nights here in 1995 and came back many times and those were some of the favourite times of my life.
“We closed this building (the band played the final shows in the stadium before it closed in 2000 and was demolished and rebuilt) and then they opened this big beautiful new building.
“We came back in 2019 and planted our flag and made it our home again and we hope to come back many, many more times.”
Reflection on recovery
The frontman also alluded to the surgery he underwent after the discovery one of his vocal cords had atrophied, when he reflected on his recovery, saying: “God knows it was a long one, but it was worth it.”
Bon Jovi will return to Wembley Stadium on September 9 for the final night of their Forever Tour.
