Hollywood actor John Travolta caused a stir in Norfolk after being spotted shopping at a Morrisons supermarket and later enjoying a meal at a Wetherspoon pub. The star, who is filming a short movie in West Raynham, took time to pose for selfies with customers and staff.
Sam Frary, from Sculthorpe, encountered Travolta in the biscuit aisle of the Fakenham Morrisons. 'I never thought that in a million years that somebody like John Travolta would be in Morrisons,' she said. 'He was lovely; he had time for everybody and it is something I will never forget.'
Security guard Gary Middleton initially doubted the news, but after meeting Travolta near the bread counter, he confirmed the actor's identity. Travolta shook his hand and chatted, then agreed to a photo. Middleton noted the actor bought a trolley full of goods including biscuits, pizzas and fillet steak.
Nicola Gee, a Morrisons employee and 'massive fan', was the first to spot the star. 'You don't expect stars to do their own shopping. You expect them to send someone else,' she said. 'We were all a bit excited, and he was just so pleasant about it.'
Travolta was also seen at The Romany Rye pub in Dereham, where Jamie Salter approached him. 'I shook his hand and said 'is it John?' and he said 'yeah, it is',' Mr Salter recalled. 'It was unreal. It was one of those moments when everything freezes and only hits you a couple of hours later.'
The actor revealed he is in England making a short film called The Shepherd, based on a book by Frederick Forsyth. He also posted a video on Instagram of afternoon tea with his daughter Ella, who was celebrating her birthday.
