John Goodman Unrecognisable After 14 Stone Weight Loss

John Goodman, the 74-year-old sitcom legend, is unrecognisable after dropping a staggering 14 stone. The actor, who weighed 28 stone at his heaviest, has transformed his appearance through a dedicated weight loss journey that began after he quit drinking in 2007.

From 28 Stone to 14 Stone

Goodman, famous for his role as Dan Conner on the Emmy-winning Roseanne, has shed half his body weight. Three years ago, he had already lost 14 stone, and recent photos suggest he has continued to slim down.

A recent selfie, shared on Instagram by actor David DeLuise, shows Goodman looking dramatically different. DeLuise, known for Wizards of Waverly Place, spotted Goodman at a supermarket and asked for a photo. Goodman, wearing a denim shirt and white t-shirt, smiled alongside his superfan, who captioned the snap: "He was my childhood!! Legend ! I love that I get to say that to someone ;) if you know you know."

Rehab and Recovery

Goodman's transformation began after he entered rehab in 2007. He revealed to the Guardian: "It was 30 years of a disease that was taking its toll on everyone around me and it had got to the point where, every time I did it, it was becoming more and more debilitating. It was life or death. It was time to stop."

By 2010, he had lost 100lb by cutting out sugar and working out six days a week with Serena Williams' trainer, Mackie Shilstone. Shilstone told People magazine that the Big Lebowski star "remembers what it feels like to be extremely heavy and it’s something he doesn’t want again." The trainer put Goodman on a Mediterranean-style eating plan and had him walk 10,000 to 12,000 steps on the treadmill daily.

Maintaining the Weight Loss

Goodman attributes his success to "portion control," as he told AARP magazine. However, he humorously added: "But I don’t want to be an example to anybody when the weight comes thundering back on - when I start eating Crisco out of the can with a spoon and a side of confectioner's sugar."

Thankfully, Goodman has maintained his new lifestyle, and by 2023, he had lost an impressive 200lb.
