Joey Essex admits he still can't tell the time at 36

Joey Essex has admitted he is still unable to tell the time at the age of 36. The former The Only Way Is Essex star made the confession to his dad, insisting: "I swear on my life, I can't."

The ex-TOWIE cast member also found himself outsmarted by seven-year-old schoolchildren in his new gameshow The Box.

'I genuinely don't'

He admitted: "My own dad said to me a little while ago, 'You do know how to tell the time, don't you?' I said, 'Dad, I genuinely don't.' I swear on my life, I can't."

During his stint on I'm A Celebrity in 2013, Joey shocked campmates when he revealed that he couldn't read a traditional analogue clock - and he still can't 13 years later.

New ITV show The Box

ITV's The Box is presented by former Match of the Day host Gary Lineker and will air on ITV next month. It follows 10 celebrities as they open mystery boxes around the UK - and they have no idea the challenge ahead of them.

Football legend Graeme Souness, The Chase's Jenny Ryan and JLS singer JB Gill are also among the line-up.

Outsmarted by schoolchildren

In The Box, Joey ends up going head to head with some school children to answer questions - and it doesn't end well. He winced: "That was weird. It didn't go down well for me. Gary was saying, 'OK, it's not an act.'"

"The kids were all cleverer than me, but I bring warmth. When they got asked afterwards who they liked, they shouted out, 'Joey!' All these seven- and eight-year-olds. Bless 'em. They were so smart."
