Jessie J has tearfully poked fun at herself after her reactivated profile was spotted on the dating app Raya. The singer, 38, was reported to be back on the VIP matchmaking app for celebrities, following her breakup with basketball player Chanan Colman, who she met on Raya in 2021.
Singer's tearful confession
In a video shared on Instagram, Jessie initially duped her fans into thinking the matter was something far more serious. Sitting at a vanity unit, the Price Tag singer tearfully told her followers: 'My management have just told me something and I want to tell you guys the truth. There's a story being run about me tomorrow in The Sun, an article, and I did do it. I did…'
Keeping the gag going, Jessie then revealed: 'I updated and reactivated my Raya account on a dating app. I did. For two days, I surrendered. I just got excited and I updated my pictures.' Among the pictures reported to have been added was one of the singer attending the O2 Silver Clef Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in July.
Deactivated and sorry
'But I didn't update my bio because I wanted to be mysterious. But I've deactivated it now and I'm really sorry and I won't do it again,' she said. In the caption to the Instagram post, she tagged the publication and joked: 'We could have gone on a date. Think of the stories you have got then.' Jessie also tagged the official Raya account and wrote: 'I don't think the privacy part of the app works.'
Split announcement
It comes after Jessie announced last month that she and partner Chanan, who she shares a three-year-old son with, split 'a long time ago' following a 'sad and difficult situation'. She wrote on Instagram: 'Chanan and I decided to end our romantic relationship some time ago, it has been a sad and difficult situation, but we have been focused on navigating the change privately and positively for a healthy and happy co-parenting environment for our son, and ourselves.'
'Unfortunately, being in the public eye, this is the easiest way to let people know the truth, before rumours circulate or a false narrative is written.' Jessie continued: 'We will always continue supporting each other with love, respect and care as friends and most importantly being Sky's Mum and Dad, so if you see us out and about together as a family, or posting each other on socials every now and again. That's exactly what we are doing. Raising and loving Sky together, supported with a positive friendship.'
