Jessica Simpson has released a new single titled 'Leave' that appears to address the breakdown of her marriage to Eric Johnson, with lyrics accusing him of infidelity. The 44-year-old singer split from the former NFL player earlier this year after 15 years together and 11 years of marriage.
The song includes the lines: "What we had was magic / Now you've made it tragic / Giving her what you gave to me / Now the well that you drank from is empty." Further lyrics reference "unholy matrimony" and question whether her successor experienced the same treatment.
Simpson, who announced the separation in January, previously hinted at "trust issues" as a cause. In a social media post she said: "Music makes you un-become to become... it's GO TIME." She is preparing her first album since 2010's 'Happy Christmas'.
The forthcoming record, made with singer-songwriter JD McPherson, has been described as a "grungy revenge album". A source told the Daily Mail: "She is singing from the heart... Very raw and full of wild emotion. She will shock the pants off her fans."
Simpson and Johnson married in 2014 and have three children: Maxwell Drew (2012), Ace Knute (2013) and Birdie Mae (2019). She was previously married to Nick Lachey, with whom she starred in the MTV reality show 'Newlyweds'.
