Jennifer Lopez has described cancelling her summer tour as the 'best decision I ever made', following her separation from husband Ben Affleck. The 55-year-old singer called off her This Is Me... Live tour in May, initially telling fans she was 'heartbroken and devastated' to let them down. Divorce filings later confirmed the couple had split the previous month.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, Lopez reflected on her decision to step away from the spotlight. 'I took the summer off to be home with the kids, which is the best thing I have ever done,' she said. 'It was not like me to do that, so I always want to apologise to the fans.'
The singer, who is currently promoting her new film Unstoppable, became emotional during the show when she recalled a heartfelt encounter with a fan. The fan told her he had tickets to see her tour, and when she apologised, he replied: 'Don't say sorry, we love you.' Lopez started crying and was surprised to discover the same fan was in the studio audience, giving him a hug and thanking him for his support.
In June, Live Nation announced the cancellation of Lopez's 2024 summer tour, stating she was 'taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends'. Lopez later addressed fans in her On the Jlo newsletter, writing: 'I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn't do this if I didn't feel that it was absolutely necessary.'
The tour was initially in support of her ninth studio album This Is Me... Now and was set to begin on June 26 in Orlando. News of its cancellation came amid speculation over her marriage to Affleck and rumours of poor ticket sales.
