Jane Fallon, the partner of comedian Ricky Gervais, has spoken out against a fake AI-generated obituary that circulated online as she continues treatment for breast cancer. The 65-year-old author shared an update on Instagram on Monday showing herself wearing compression socks ahead of a second operation.
Fallon revealed in March that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram. Earlier this month, she announced that surgeons had 'basically got it all' after removing the tumour, but a clear margin around the tissue was not achieved, necessitating another procedure. 'It will be just to make sure they get everything, which is a bit of a pain, but it isn't a worry,' she said.
In a post on X, Fallon condemned the fake obituary and AI-generated images showing her in hospital. 'Any photos you see of me in hospital, looking sad or with tubes sticking out of me are 100% fake – AI generated,' she wrote. She described feeling 'p***ed off' but not upset, and wanted to alert followers to the fraudulent content.
Fans expressed anger, with one noting the obituary was shared by a page posing as a Ricky Gervais fan site. Fallon, who has been with Gervais since they met at University College London in 1982, has written 14 books, including 'Getting Rid Of Matthew' and 'Just Got Real'.
