Jamie Lynn Spears, the 34-year-old sister of pop icon Britney Spears, has sparked conversation online after appearing to draw direct inspiration from her famous sibling's most iconic era in a recent social media post.
A Blast from Britney's Past
On Wednesday, the Zoey 101 star shared a series of new photographs on Instagram, showcasing a striking new look. In the snaps, Jamie Lynn sported a bright red top and long, platinum blonde hair extensions, a style that immediately reminded fans of Britney's unforgettable appearance in the music video for her millennial anthem, 'Oops!…I Did It Again' from the year 2000.
In that iconic video, the 44-year-old '...Baby One More Time' hitmaker famously wore a red latex catsuit with matching long blonde hair. Jamie Lynn's latest transformation was so complete that she bore a striking resemblance to her older sister, looking almost like her twin. She humorously captioned the post: 'good lighting+tons of make-up+pounds of fake hair really make a difference.' She completed the ensemble with grey jeans and pearl earrings, and in one photo flashed a peace sign to the camera.
Festive Gatherings and Family Tensions
The style homage comes amidst the backdrop of ongoing and very public family tensions. Just days before, Jamie Lynn had offered a glimpse into her Christmas celebrations at her Louisiana home. Her holiday carousel included photos with her daughters, Maddie, 17, and Ivey, 7, her husband Jamie Watson, her mother Lynne Spears, 70, and notably, Britney's eldest son, Sean Preston, 20.
Reports indicated that Sean Preston had work obligations in Louisiana, leading him to spend the holiday with his aunt and grandmother. Britney's other son, 19-year-old Jayden, reportedly spent Christmas with his mother. A source told People magazine, 'Britney had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden... It's been such a special holiday.'
However, Britney herself was conspicuously absent from the family gathering at Jamie Lynn's. Three days after Christmas, the singer posted a message on Instagram that seemed to sarcastically reference the event. 'Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can't fix…,' she wrote beneath a picture of a decorated tree.
A Fraught Sisterly History
The sisters' relationship has been strained for years, particularly in the wake of Britney's 13-year conservatorship, which ended in November 2021. The feud escalated publicly in early 2022 after Jamie Lynn's memoir, 'Things I Should Have Said', became a bestseller. Britney used Instagram to accuse her sister of lying and criticised the timing of the book's release.
Jamie Lynn has previously attempted to call for private reconciliation. In a 2022 Instagram Story plea, she wrote to Britney: 'Just call me, I have attempted many times to speak to you directly and handle this privately like sisters should, but you still choose to do everything on a public platform.' She described their public dispute as 'embarrassing and has to stop.'
As of now, representatives for both Jamie Lynn and Britney Spears have not provided further comment on the recent posts or the state of their relationship.
