Jake Gyllenhaal has fully embraced Australian culture during his time on the Gold Coast, where he is currently filming the comedy-drama Honeymoon With Harry alongside Kevin Costner. The 45-year-old American superstar was spotted strolling around the film set at Rainbow Bay on Monday, going completely barefoot while wearing a simple T-shirt and chino trousers.
Despite traversing the dirty ground alongside several crew members, Jake appeared completely unfazed during what seemed to be a tour of the set. He was joined by acting legend Kevin Costner, who opted for a polo shirt, shorts, and notably, a pair of sandals.
Going barefoot in public has become a frequent topic of debate online. Some view it as an integral part of Australian culture, while others criticize it as unhygienic and unsafe. This trend extends to other celebrities, with A-listers like Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky often going shoeless in their hometown of Byron Bay. Visiting stars such as Oprah Winfrey and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers have also been spotted barefoot in Australia.
Jake's shoeless outing comes just weeks after he baffled Australian ice cream fans with an unusual gelato order. The Oscar nominee took a break from filming Honeymoon With Harry to visit Gelato Messina in Fortitude Valley. Instead of choosing between a cup or a cone, he opted for both, ordering a secret menu item known as a Unicorn. Gelato Messina shared CCTV footage on Instagram, showing Jake at the counter in a crisp white T-shirt and jeans, holding a cup of gelato with an upside-down cone on top.
The mystery of Jake's order was solved when staff confirmed he chose a mix of Bounty (a popular Australian chocolate and coconut candy bar) and Macadamia Crunch. He also left with two one-litre tubs of gelato. A spokesperson for Gelato Messina explained that while not an official menu item, The Unicorn is a popular hack for customers who can't decide between a cup or a cone.
