Actors Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher have announced they are divorcing after more than 20 years together. In a joint statement posted on their Instagram stories on Friday, the couple said they had jointly filed to end their marriage last year.
The pair, who have three children, met at a party in Sydney in 2001 and became engaged in 2004. Sharing a photograph of themselves in tennis whites, they wrote: 'After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down.'
They added: 'We have always prioritised our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family's wish for privacy.'
Baron Cohen, known for creating characters such as Ali G and Borat, previously recalled meeting Fisher, saying they bonded at a 'pretentious party' by making fun of other guests. Fisher, who rose to fame in Australian soap 'Home and Away', later appeared in films including 'Wedding Crashers' and 'Confessions of a Shopaholic'.
The announcement comes amid a separate dispute involving Baron Cohen and actress Rebel Wilson over claims in her forthcoming memoir. Wilson has alleged she faced humiliating treatment on the set of his 2016 film 'Grimsby', which Baron Cohen's lawyers have dismissed as having 'no basis in reality'. The memoir's UK release has been delayed to 25 April.
