Michael De Cozar, the Head Hall Porter of The Ritz London who appeared in ITV's Inside the Ritz, has died on August 10, the programme has confirmed. The show paid tribute to him on Instagram, describing him as a cherished member of the team.

In a statement, the hotel said: "We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of our Head Hall Porter and dear colleague, Michael De Cozar. Michael was a cherished member of the Hall Porter team and dedicated 53 years of his life to The Ritz London. Throughout his remarkable career, he became a much-loved and familiar face to generations of colleagues and guests alike."
The statement continued: "We are profoundly grateful for Michael’s dedication, loyalty, and exceptional service to The Ritz. His warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him, as well as by our many guests who knew and loved him. Our thoughts are with Michael’s family and loved ones at this difficult time."
Society of the Golden Keys pays tribute
The Society of the Golden Keys of Great Britain & the Commonwealth also paid tribute on LinkedIn, noting that Michael joined The Ritz in July 1973 at age 16 as a page boy, and became the youngest Head Concierge in the hotel's history at 24. He was awarded Honorary Life Membership by the Society earlier this year.

Inside the Ritz, which aired in 2019, gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the hotel's operations over four episodes. The series featured visits from Richard E Grant, Anna Wintour, and Mo Salah, and highlighted the hotel's famous Afternoon Tea and executive chef John Williams.
