I'm a Celebrity: Former contestant claims Angry Ginge prompted Bushtucker Trial rule change

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! bosses have introduced a significant rule change for Bushtucker Trials, preventing individual campmates from being voted by the public to face the challenges on consecutive days. The new restriction, described as "two in a row and you miss a go", has been designed to "give all campmates the opportunity to shine", according to ITV chiefs.

The change comes as 2025 contestant Angry Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, has amassed a large online following, with over 1.4 million Twitch followers and 889,000 YouTube subscribers. Former campmate Nicola McLean, who appeared on the show in 2008, believes the decision was influenced by his popularity.

Speaking on behalf of WhichBingo, McLean said: "There's like two minds for me. One mind, I think it's good because we get to see different people but then in another mind it's really funny when the same person does it and they're getting fed up or they're not getting the stars because that causes a bit of conflict." She added that Ginge would likely have been voted for every trial due to his fanbase, saying: "I feel like Ginge has changed that because I think he would have been voted for every single one, not because people don't like him but his popularity and his streamers would have voted it."

McLean also praised the current line-up, noting that it has brought her family together. She said her 15-year-old son is watching for the first time because he knows Aitch and Angry Ginge. She also mentioned Martin Kemp and Ruby Wax, and predicted that quieter campmates like Shona McGarty and Alex Scott will come forward as the group shrinks.

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
