I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! has faced a series of disasters during its 2025 series, including a freak storm that forced an emergency evacuation of the camp. The storm, which hit Dungay Creek in New South Wales, brought giant hailstones, lightning, and heavy rainfall, prompting show bosses to implement their health and safety weather contingencies.
The Queensland Bureau of Meteorology had issued a warning for a 'very dangerous storm' producing 'large to giant hailstones, damaging and destructive winds and heavy rainfall causing flash flooding'. Campmates were ushered into the Bush Telegraph for over an hour while the worst of the storm passed. Insiders said the camp was left 'drenched' and filming was delayed by up to three hours, with contestants spending much of the afternoon drying their soaked belongings by the campfire.
A show source said: 'Our health and safety weather contingencies kicked in and we evacuated the celebrities immediately to the Bush Telegraph until the storm passed and it was safe to return to camp.' The evacuation is only done in extreme circumstances, according to sources, with bosses using highly advanced weather tracking systems to monitor approaching storms.
The wet weather also brought an unwelcome visitor to camp: leeches. After the storm, a huge group of leeches appeared in the creek where the celebrities had been swimming. Kelly Brook, Shona McGarty, and Alex Scott had a close encounter, quickly fleeing the water. Kelly told the Bush Telegraph: 'We were seconds away from being covered in leeches and eaten alive. Oh my God! We just could not get out of that pool quick enough.'
Insiders said the wet weather always brings out leeches and other biting insects, and that the camp could become 'fraught' as a result. Before the series started, The Sun reported that bosses were being cautious about the influx of leeches likely to arrive due to wet weather, and might need to limit trips to the jungle waterfall. Giant earthworms are also expected to appear.
In a separate incident, police launched a manhunt just 20 minutes from the camp after a man was shot and killed in Eungella, New South Wales. The victim, 41, died at the scene, while two others were injured. A 38-year-old man was shot but later treated in hospital, and a 45-year-old man was hit by a car and placed under police guard. Two men have since been taken into custody.
