Influencer Rebecca Zamolo has shared the frightening moment her husband Matthew Yoakum's face caught fire during a family BBQ, leaving him with second-degree superficial burns. The accident happened hours before a planned flight to Hawaii to celebrate his birthday, but he still chose to travel.
Rebecca, known for family-focused videos and challenges, has around 3.3 million Instagram followers and more than 30 million YouTube subscribers. Matt regularly appears in these videos alongside their children Zadie and Xander.
Injuries documented on Instagram
On Friday July 31, Rebecca posted images showing visible burns across parts of Matt's face. The photos, taken abroad, documented the redness and damage caused by the flames. No further details were given about how the fire started or whether Matt received hospital treatment immediately after.
Writing on Instagram, Rebecca said: "For those who don’t know, Matt’s face caught on fire at our BBQ and it gave him “2nd degree superficial burns”. It was hours before our flight to Hawaii to celebrate his birthday so he has been healing here. (He still wanted to go). It was a scary incident for all of us, and a reminder how precious life is."
Support from followers
She added: "Thank you to everyone that has reached out and friends that are in the medical field and put him on a good path to heal. He’s extremely lucky as it could have been a lot worse, but we are taking it day by day. We love you Matt."
Many followers responded with messages of support. One wrote: "Omg. That is horrible. So happy he’s okay." Another said: "Sending love & prayers." A third added: "This is awful! Get well soon Matt!"
Since the images were posted on Friday, the couple has not shared an update on Matt's condition, but Rebecca said they are handling his recovery one day at a time.
