How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days sequel in development

A sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is in development at Paramount, with original star Kate Hudson attached as a producer.

Development on the film is in the “very early days” and the studio is currently searching for script writers, according to a source.

Cast and producers returning

The intention is for both Hudson and Matthew McConaughey to reprise their roles from the original film, sources confirmed. Hudson will produce alongside Stacey Sher, whose credits include Pulp Fiction, Matilda, Erin Brockovich and Django Unchained.

In the original film, Hudson plays journalist Andy Anderson, who writes “How To” articles for a women’s magazine. She is inspired to write about how to date a man and then drive him away, using “the classic mistakes women make”.

Original film success

At the same time, advertising executive Benjamin Barry, played by McConaughey, bets his colleagues that he can make a woman fall in love with him in time for the company ball in 10 days.

The film grossed 177 million US dollars (£129 million) and is considered a staple of the romantic comedy genre. The yellow Carolina Herrera dress Hudson wears near the end of the film has also become an iconic piece of cinema fashion.

Rom-com careers

Hudson is known for other romantic comedies including You, Me And Dupree, Bride Wars and Fool’s Gold, where she reunited with McConaughey. He has also appeared in The Wedding Planner, Failure To Launch and Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past.

Representatives for Hudson and McConaughey have been contacted for comment.
