Holly Willoughby has revealed she was left “mortified” after a wardrobe mishap led to her appearing on page three of a newspaper. The former This Morning presenter, 45, said she accidentally became a “page three girl” after a “really bad” incident while presenting a children’s television programme in the early 2000s.
Hypnotised Blue and a broken strap
Speaking on the latest episode of her YouTube series, Together, she said someone had come onto the show to hypnotise the boyband Blue, instructing them to dance around and copy Willoughby when they woke up.
She said: “As far as I’m concerned, they were definitely hypnotised. I stood up and I was really like going for it and as I looked down, the strap on my top had broken, and my left boob was swinging. But we were still live and I knew it happened and we had an ad break and I came off air and I was like, ‘tell me you didn’t see that!’ And they were like, ‘We can’t. We’re not going to lie to you. We did see it’.”
Page three appearance and reaction
Willoughby added: “And then The Sun put me on page three the next day. So I’ve been a page three girl with my boob out.” She recounted the story to Spice Girls star Emma Bunton and All Saints singer Nicola Appleton, who were guests on the show. The pair “congratulated” the presenter for making it on to page three.
Emma Bunton’s embarrassing moment
During the episode, Bunton also revealed one of the “most embarrassing” moments in her life after her platform shoes got in the way of her performing. She said: “I remember looking out to the crowd, and Madonna was watching us. So I was literally at this moment looking at her, like ‘Madonna’s in the crowd!’. And then I fell over. Fell in front of Madonna. I mean, that is one of the most embarrassing things that’s ever happened to me.”
The 50-year-old singer, also known as Baby Spice, rose to fame as part of the hit 90s girl group behind the songs Wannabe, Say You’ll Be There and 2 Become 1. The group were known for their fashion with each of the five members taking on a distinct style and look – with Bunton often sporting a lot of pink, platform trainers and her classic baby doll dresses.
Bunton added: “I loved my dresses. Right from the beginning, this is something that I don’t think I’ve talked about much, but I knew I wanted to wear, and I couldn’t ever find that kind of baby doll dress that I felt comfortable in, that you could dance in, that wasn’t too short, all of those things. So I actually went and bought material, material that I loved, just me and my mum, we went and bought about 10 different kind of materials. We didn’t really have any money either to kind of go out and buy dresses, and there was a neighbour who used to make things and she made most of my dresses at the beginning. So it was nice. I got to design it as well.”
