Despite the pomp and celebrity attendance, the event was dominated by a bitter family dispute. The Olympic swimmer's mother, Caroline Peaty, was barred from attending the service. This left Adam's older sister, Bethany, as one of the only principal family members from his side present to witness the union at the historic abbey.

She wrote: 'The night before our wedding we hosted an intimate cocktail party to kick start the Weekend Celebrations. My siblings all did a speech which was so special and we celebrated with cake, spicy margs and then an early night, ready for the big day!!'
