Henry Cavill, known for his role as Superman, has admitted he is not a fan of sex scenes, calling them often overused and unnecessary. The 43-year-old actor expressed his views on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, stating that while some scenes can benefit a movie's plot, many are gratuitous.
Cavill's Criticism of Gratuitous Scenes
Cavill said: "There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience... [but] I think sometimes they're overused these days." He questioned the necessity of such scenes, asking, "Is this really necessary, or is it just people with less clothing on?"
He further explained that when scenes feel unnecessary, they lack performance and fail to contribute to the rest of the film. However, he acknowledged that sex scenes can be "great in a movie" when used to enhance storytelling.
Past Embarrassing Incident on The Tudors
Cavill, who previously spoke about this issue, recalled an embarrassing moment while filming The Tudors. In a 2015 interview with Men's Health, he admitted to becoming aroused during a scene, saying: "It's happened to me once... and it was very embarrassing. A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts, and I hadn't rearranged my... stuff into a harmless position."
He added: "She's basically rubbing herself all over me, um, it got a bit hard. I had to apologise profusely afterward. It's not great when you're in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a boner, is it? No, not acceptable."
