Prince William is expected to be “absolutely furious” over his brother’s plan to make a documentary about their late mother, Princess Diana, according to a royal expert. The Duke of Sussex wants to mark the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death, on August 31 next year, by honouring her legacy “in the most meaningful way”.
Harry approaches family and friends
Harry has reportedly approached several friends and relatives of his late mother, including her brother, Earl Spencer, to ask whether they would take part in the documentary. However, the move could infuriate his older brother, with whom he is not on speaking terms.
The Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers told the Pod Save The King show on YouTube: “It is the 30th anniversary of her tragic death next year, everybody has been trying to have their say and they will be, of course, next year.”
Archewell Productions and Netflix
Myers added: “Archewell Productions are apparently going to produce it, as they've got this sort of first-look deal with Netflix.” He noted that previous productions, including the Invictus documentary and a Polo documentary that “absolutely bombed”, have not performed well.
“And I just think this is beyond the pale for Harry to be saying ‘Well I'm going to do this now’,” he said. The royal editor warned: “So, realistically, does Harry have a right to do this? I can tell you now that William will be absolutely furious about it.”
Harry's recent speech on AI
The news comes after the Duke of Sussex gave a speech on the dangers of AI during a trip to New York City, just a week after he moved back to the UK. Harry warned that AI is learning “how to enter our relationships” and joked that it had sabotaged his speech when he faced a technical glitch.
The duke had to cut short his address to the Clinton Global Initiative in New York on Wednesday when the teleprompter failed. He returned to the stage about 40 minutes later to finish his talk, saying: “Hello again. So AI got into my speech, so I was asked to come out and finish it. Interesting to see what it was so concerned about in part two.”
