Harry Kane Reveals Beckham's Message After Cap Record

Harry Kane has revealed that David Beckham was the first to congratulate him after he equalled the England legend's cap record. The England captain matched Beckham's 115 caps during Wednesday's 4-2 win against Croatia in Dallas, moving joint third in the all-time list behind Peter Shilton and Wayne Rooney. Kane also levelled Gary Lineker's record of ten goals in World Cups, and the Bayern Munich superstar can now surpass both milestones in this tournament.

Kane's Pride at Matching Idols

Speaking on the FA's Lions' Den show, Kane expressed his pride: "I am extremely proud to be in amongst those names. David Beckham was my idol growing up, he was my hero, from the same area, Chingford, went to the same school so he was just my idol. Now to have the same number of caps as him is pretty mind-blowing."

Kane admitted he rarely dwells on such achievements, but this one was special: "I don't take a lot of this stuff in, I just get on to the next thing... it's something, for sure, that I will take in when I stop and look back on."

Beckham's Classy Gesture

The England striker revealed Beckham's thoughtful message: "David sent me a nice voice note yesterday before the game and then after the game, congratulating me on getting to 115 and he said he knows how hard it is to be that consistent and get that many caps so it was really nice of him and he was wishing all the boys the best as well."

Kane described every interaction with Beckham as "amazing" and noted the full circle moment: "He's watching us as a fan and I'm sure we'll be the same in 20 years or so. What a great role model for all of us."

Lineker's Record Also Matched

On matching Gary Lineker's ten World Cup goals, Kane said: "Everyone knows how good a striker he was especially in World Cups, so to get to the ten goals is obviously really pleasing. Again, the next game is just a few days away and I'm feeling good, feeling ready so I just can't wait to get going again."
