Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly concerned that a proposed film project about Queen Elizabeth II's long-time dresser, Angela Kelly, could expose secrets from their time behind Buckingham Palace doors, according to reports.
Concerns over Angela Kelly film project
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who moved back to the UK in August, are worried about the project, which could focus on Ms Kelly's relationship with the late monarch. It may also include an alleged disagreement with Meghan over the tiara she wore to marry Harry in 2018.
In his memoir Spare, the duke described Ms Kelly as an obstructive force to Meghan wearing the diamond heirloom. He also labelled her "a troublemaker" and someone he "didn't need as an enemy".
Source claims couple fear 'her side of the story'
A source told Radar Online that the couple are wary about Ms Kelly "finally getting the opportunity to tell her side of the story". "The pair of them are now in fear she will expose secrets of their time behind palace doors," they added.
"Angela wasn't some distant member of the royal household who occasionally crossed paths with the family," the source continued. "She was one of the Queen's closest and most trusted confidantes ... What's potentially so damaging for the Sussexes is that Angela may remember certain events very differently from the way Harry has described them."
The source suggested that audiences "being presented with an entirely different perspective" on Harry and Meghan's "most controversial moments" could make them "deeply uncomfortable". Ms Kelly has already written two books about her time working for the late Queen, released in 2012 and 2019.
Sussexes' return to Britain
Meghan and Harry set up home back in England over the summer, six years after sparking the Megxit crisis and quitting the working monarchy for a new life in the US. The couple have since attracted criticism for appearing to pursue a "half in, half out" royal role in the style expressly forbidden by Queen Elizabeth before her death.
Earlier this month, a source told The Telegraph Meghan is "reading a lot of scripts" and will focus on her family, lifestyle brand and rebooting her acting career, rather than pseudo-royal visits. They added that if she had any time left she would do "some charity work" but added "she's not a working royal", but a full-time mother and entrepreneur.
Harry, meanwhile, is said to be pursuing a more philanthropic approach to life in Britain. Alongside a joint visit to Nottingham with Meghan, the duke carried out a number of solo trips in September, including attending the annual WellChild awards.
This was despite King Charles clarifying that Harry and Meghan should be considered "private citizens" upon their move back across the Atlantic, a term they were reportedly unhappy with. The duke spoke out for the first time about their reasons for relocating in an interview with GQ last week, suggesting it was to do with "opportunities for the family" and enrolling Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five in British schools.
