Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez left his wife Gemma Atkinson struggling to keep a straight face after a seemingly innocent question from fans took a very unexpected turn.
The couple were answering questions on their joint Lost In Translation podcast when they were asked: “Who is fitter out of you both? And what are your strengths and weaknesses in fitness?”
Gemma was quick to concede that Gorka, 35, was the fitter of the two, pointing out that dancing was his profession.
“You’re definitely fitter than me, you’re extremely fit but you should be. You’re a dancer for a living. I’m a lot more flexible than you aren’t I? I stretch everyday, you’ve got to as you get older.”
Cheeky Remark
But Gorka appeared to see an opportunity for a cheeky remark, winking as he told his wife: “I stretch her out.”
He then took things further, asking: “Can I pipe you tonight?”
Gemma, 41, questioned him about the unusual proposition before recalling a similar exchange from years earlier, when Gorka was getting ready to go out.
“He genuinely once years and years ago, you were planning to go out for something… before he was rushing out, he said ‘Can I just check before I go tonight is it pipe or no pipe?’
“And you asked me so matter of factly because it determined whether he came home.”
Gorka then doubled down, saying: “Yeah because I don’t wanna come back and have to thumb in a softie.”
Flexibility Question
Eventually, Gemma managed to return to the original fitness question, concluding: “I would say I’m more flexible.”
That prompted another interruption from her husband, who asked: “Can I check that tonight? If you’re more flexible?”
Clearly taken aback, Gemma responded: “Did you just genuinely ask me publicly if you can pipe me tonight?”
The exchange amused listeners, with one fan saying: “I absolutely love you both. I just roared with laughter at this can’t wait to listen to this later.”
Another wrote: “Omg you pair are absolute legends.”
A third added: “You two are brilliant, never know what @gorka_marquez is going to come out with.”
“Pipe… very romantic Gorka,” joked another fan.
Family Life
Gorka and Gemma met while taking part in the 2017 series of Strictly Come Dancing and became engaged in 2021. They share two children, Mia, six, and Thiago, two.
The couple have also recently opened up about parenting on their podcast, with Gemma revealing that their daughter is already saying things that make Gorka “shrink in his chair”.
She said Mia was beginning to talk about boys and wanting new crop tops, while joking that the next stage would bring teenage hormones.
Gemma, who played Lisa Hunter in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, said: "Like, 'Can I say this? Can I eat that? Can I do that? And you think, 'Oh my gosh, look at you'. And then, in replacement of that toddler, you get a little sassy girl or a little cocky boy. Like Mia's got the sass and she speaks to us about boys."
And this, and, 'I need some new crop tops' and all this, things that make Gorka like shrink in his chair. And then soon, they'll be a teenager, and they'll be hormones'."
